Japanese Super Team Fails to Win Olympic Badminton Gold Medal

The star-studded Japanese Badminton Team failed to win a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Japan is said to be one of the countries that has a good chance of winning many gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics badminton.

Japan is considered to have evenly distributed strength in five numbers and consists of the world’s top players. Many players on the Japan Badminton Team are currently in the top five in the world and even occupy the top positions in the world.

At the 2021 All England, Japan ended the tournament with four titles in hand.

Kento Momota, Nozomi Okuhara, Akane Yamaguchi, Yuta Watanabe/Hiroyuki Endo, Sayaka Hirota/Yuki Fukushima, Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara, to Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino are names that are believed to be able to watch a lot and become favorites at the Tokyo Olympics this time .

But one by one the Japanese badminton stars fell. Momota, who was the first seed in the men’s singles, even came to a surprise stop at the group stage.

In the women’s doubles, Hirota/Fukushima and Mayu/Wakana both lost in the quarter-finals. Hirota had to play with a leg injury throughout the tournament while Mayu/Wakana were eliminated after failing to take advantage of the match points they had earned.

In the men’s doubles, Yuta/Endo and Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda also lost in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Yuta/Arisa who had penetrated the semifinals had to acknowledge the greatness of Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping.

On Friday (30/7) Japan’s hopes of winning gold were piled into the women’s singles number. Nozomi and Akane failed to bear the burden and could not qualify for the semifinals.

Nozomi lost to He Bingjiao with a score of 21-13, 13-21, 14-21. This failure also added to the suffering of the Japanese badminton team, which failed to gain a single gold medal at home.

The defeat of host player Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics made Japan fail to gain a gold medal.

Women’s singles badminton player Akane Yamaguchi complements Japan’s suffering at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

What’s more, if not his defeat to India’s representative PV Sindhu in the quarter-finals with numbers 13-21, 20-22. Playing at Mushashino Forest Sport Park, Friday (30/7/2021), Yamaguchi lost in two straight games 13-22, 20-22 from the sixth seed.

The defeat of the two representatives ensured Japan could not win a gold medal in badminton.

In total, the Japanese Badminton Team only got one bronze through the success of Yuta/Arisa sitting in third place in the mixed doubles.
