Andy Murray Praises Jenson Brooksby, Remembers Predictions Against Caroline Garcia

Andy Murray

Andy Murray praised 20-year-old US tennis player Jenson Brooksby who stole the attention of the tennis world.

After world number 130 Brooksby reached the semifinals of this season’s Washington Open (Citi Open), he managed to impress the former world number 1 who has bagged two Olympic gold medals.

But when the Briton praised the American via Twitter, he had to face questions about his previous prediction. He answered it well by remembering the French tennis player, Caroline Garcia.

The young US tennis player, Brooksby managed to show a capable ability on the court when in action at the Washington Open this week. En route to the semifinals in Washington, he beat Kevin Anderson, Frances Tiafoe, Felix Auger Aliassime, and John Millman.

The impressive performance also caught the attention of the British tennis player who compared the American’s slice and backhand volley with former German Florian Mayer.

“Jenson Brooksby is a player I would love to watch, has a lot of variety, has a high tennis IQ and a great defense. His slice and backhand volley are almost identical to Florian Mayer’s,” Andy Murray wrote.

In a comment, a tennis fan appealed to the Briton, writing, “Just don’t say he’s a future world No 1. We know how it ends.”

This refers to the prediction of the player who has won three Grand Slam titles about Garcia a decade ago when the French national played against Maria Sharapova.

At the time, Murray said, “The tennis player Sharapova faces will one day become world No. 1.”

As is well known, until now Garcia occupies the highest rank in his career by being ranked 4th in the world in singles and world number 2 in doubles. Consequently, the British tennis player decided not to repeat the same thing to Brooksby.

“Yeah, he’s probably going to be world number 4 in singles and world number 1 in doubles. That would be pretty awful,” Murray told the fan.

Now is the time to see if the American can live up to those expectations. Interestingly, the next opponent in the Washington Open semifinals will have the same determination to achieve success. 19-year-old Jannik Sinner will challenge Brooksby for a place in the Washington Open final. Without a doubt, the semifinals will be one of the hottest matches.
