Spain La Liga Results: Atlético win narrowly in the first match

Atletico Madrid won 2-1 over Celta Vigo in the first week of the Spanish League at Balaidos Stadium, Sunday (16/8).

Angel Correa finished the 2020/21 season in impressive form and he followed it up with a superb 23rd minute opener against Celta Vigo, with a powerful shot that pierced the top corner of the home net.

The defending champion, Atlético, who acted as the visitors, managed to take the lead in this match. Los Colchoneros opened the scoring through a goal scored by Angel Correa in the 23rd minute.

Correa found the net for Celta Vigo with a shot into the corner after receiving feedback from Thomas Lemar. The 1-0 score lasted until the first half was over.

Aspas denied Mario Hermoso’s chances just before half-time before he equalized and netted his first goal of the 2021/22 season in 15 minutes of the second half. The number 10 scored a goal through a controversial white spot due to a handball by Marcos Llorente who, according to the referee, had a handball that did appear to touch the ball with his arm even though he was in a natural position.

The goal came from a handball by Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente. Aspas, who came forward as the executor, managed to outwit Jan Oblak with a kick from 12 points.

The 1-1 draw did not last long. Atleti were back in pursuit of a second goal which finally came five minutes later as Diego Simeone prepared to draw off Angel Correa, the Argentine scoring his second after picking up a brilliant cross from Saul and proving to be the winner for his side.

Atletico took the lead again in this match through the second goal scored by Correa. Correa did not squander the opportunities obtained after utilizing a mature pass from Saul Niguez.
