Chelsea won 3-0 over Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby which is part of the English Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday (19/9).
The duel between teams from the English capital was colored by the appearance of both sides who were both fast in attacking. Son Heung Min opened up Tottenham’s chances in the fourth minute.
Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku returned a threat to the hosts. Meanwhile, Son returned to being the architect of The Lilywhites’ attack which failed to lead to a goal.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Kai Havertz also enlivened the match and increased the tension of the match with a chance in the 31st minute.
Marcos Alonso started the second half with an accurate volley that sent the ball into the Tottenham goal. Lloris’ save blocks the ball into the net.
Chelsea really took the lead in the 49th minute. The ball from Marcos Alonso’s corner was headed by Thiago Silva to the left of the goal so Lloris could not reach it.
Excellence does not make the Blues relax. The collaboration of Marcos Alonso and Azpilicueta almost became a goal had Eric Dier not cleared the ball on the goal line.
Chelsea remained determined to attack and N’Golo Kante made it 2-0 in the 57th minute. After receiving a pass from Matteo Kovacic, Kante kicked the ball towards the goal. The round skin hit Dier’s leg and made Lloris stumble. The ball hits the post before crossing the goal line.
Kane tried to score a reply in the 64th minute with a shot from outside the penalty box. The ball can still be secured by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The West London side had chances to add to their lead, but Thiago Silva’s header was blocked by Lloris and Timo Werner failed to complete Lukaku’s pass. A chaos in the Spurs penalty box in the 81st minute also failed to end with a goal. Lukaku also failed to score from the opportunities obtained in the 87th minute.
Chelsea can only add goals in injury time. Antonio Rudiger maximized bait pull from Timo Werner following a corner kick situation.
This victory put Chelsea at the top of the Premier League shifting Liverpool. The top three teams, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have the same points, 13, but Chelsea are ahead on goal difference.
This victory was greeted with joy by Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel. Although he admitted, really did not like the appearance of Romelo Lukaku et al in the first round.
