UEFA Champions League Results: Liverpool Beat Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid lost 2-3 to Liverpool in the Champions League Group B match, Tuesday (19/10).

At the beginning of the game, Atletico as the host immediately displayed an attacking game.

However, after five minutes of play Liverpool were able to take over the game.

Liverpool finally managed to lead 1-0 in the eighth minute through Mohamed Salah’s goal after passing four Atletico defenders.

Liverpool managed to increase their lead over Atletico to 2-0 through Naby Keita’s goal in the 13th minute.

However, in the 20th minute Atletico managed to reduce the gap to 1-2 through Koke’s hard kick which Antoine Griezmann was able to deflect for a goal.

In fact, Atletico Madrid finally managed to equalize to 2-2 through Antoine Griezmann’s goal.

Early in the second half, Yannick Carrasco almost put Atletico Madrid ahead after his shot was blocked by Alisson.

Atletico were forced to play with 10 men after Griezmann received a red card for kicking Firmino in the neck during an aerial duel.

The advantage of the number of players has been put to good use by Liverpool. The Reds finally managed to take a 3-2 lead over Atletico Madrid through Salah’s goal from the penalty spot.

Atletico actually got a chance to score a reply in the 85th minute after the referee awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, the penalty was overturned by the referee after seeing VAR.

Atletico then got another golden opportunity through Kieran Trippier’s shot in the 90+4 minute, but his shot still bounced over the Liverpool crossbar.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson said he was happy with the victory.

“I’m happy that we were able to score the third goal and not concede more. We controlled the situation more, but obviously there are improvements to be made when we have an advantage of players,” Alisson said as reported by UEFA’s official website.

According to Alisson, the advantage of the number of players does not necessarily make the match easy for Liverpool. “You have to create more chances, but it’s not easy against 10 men,” said Alisson.

“We are happy with the three points,” he added.

Furthermore, Alisson added, the victory over Atletico was proof of Liverpool’s quality. The reason, Alisson said that these three points were achieved by the team’s hard work.

“It’s not easy when you’re 2-0 up and then concede and you know it’s going to be difficult,” he said.

“We came here knowing it was not an easy game against Atletico. This match is a testament to every team, for us, and for those who watched the game,” he concluded.
