Chelsea are getting stronger at the top of the Premier League standings after beating Norwich City in the ninth week at Stamford Bridge Stadium, Saturday (23/10).
The Blues showed the depth of the squad even though they were not reinforced by their two mainstay bombers, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner who were hit by injuries.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad appeared to dominate the game since the first half. The movement of Kai Havertz, Hudson-Odoi, and Mason Mount up front has often troubled the Norwich City defense.
Mount became the star of the field in this match by scoring hat-tricks in the 8th, 85th, and 91st minutes respectively. Mount’s second goal was created through a penalty.
Hudson-Odoi (18′), Reece James (42′), Ben Chilwell (57′) and Max Aarons’ own goal (62′).
Chelsea played attacking since the start of the whistle sounded. In the eighth minute, Mason Mount was able to score!
Mount scored a beautiful goal through long-range kick from the left side of the Norwich penalty box. Tim Krul couldn’t stop his kick.
10 minutes later, it was Callum Hudson-Odoi’s turn to list his name on the scoreboard. Odoi moved neatly into the penalty box receiving a pass from Kovacic, then calmly struck the ball.
Chelsea so dominated in the first half. Even without centre-forward Romelu Lukaku, the movements of Havertz, Odoi and Mount up front have troubled the Norwich City defence.
In the 36th minute, Norwich City just recorded the first shot. Ozan Kabak snatch the ball from Odoi and kick off from outside the penalty box. Unfortunately, it’s still soaring away.
Kai Havertz and Mason Mount work together nicely in the penalty box. But Kai Havertz failed to complete a breakthrough in front of goal.
In the 42nd minute, it was Reece James’ turn to score the third goal for Chelsea. James ran stabbed into the penalty box utilizing Mason Mount’s through ball. Through a chip kick, James made a beautiful goal.
Chelsea closed the first half with a score of 3-0. The hosts dominated by recording 10 shots on goal with seven on target, compared to Norwich with just one.
In the second half Norwich City tried to get out of pressure. Substitute Milot Rashica almost made a goal but his shot was blocked by Edouard Mendy who came out of his post.
In the 57th minute, Ben Chilwell listed his name on the scoreline and added Chelsea’s advantage to 4-0. Kovacic released the ball into the right side of the Norwich goal, after Callum Hudson-Odoi had opened up space for him. Impeccably, the left wing-back completed the round skin.
In the 62nd minute, Callum Hudson-Odoi scored again. He released a pass in front of the Norwich goal, but hit Max Aarons and slid into the Norwich goal.
Two minutes later disastrous for Norwich defender, Ben Gibson. He received a red card, from the accumulation of two yellow cards.
Chelsea practically surrounded the Norwich defense. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who came on as a substitute, tried to kick off but it was still wide.
The 70th minute, Ross Barkley try his luck. This new arrival, his left-footed shot narrowly crossed the target.
In the 78th minute, Hakim Ziyech curled a kick. But unfortunately, it’s still narrowly sideways from the target.
Two minutes later, Barkley who stabbed into the front of the Norwich goal failed to complete the opportunity. Krul is able to read the direction of the ball and brush it off in a one-on-one duel.
In the 83rd minute, Normann made a handsball when blocking a kick from Rudiger. Mason Mount, who came forward as the executor, was denied by Krul who moved to the right to catch the ball.
The penalty was repeated, the referee repeated the penalty because several players entered the penalty box when Mount had not kicked the ball. The second attempt, Mount successfully kicked off into the middle.
90+1 minute, Mason Mount makes a hat-trick. Loftus-Cheek stabbed in front of goal and crossed for Mount against Krul. Mount also successfully returned to make his third goal.
The final whistle sounded, Chelsea won 7-0. The result made Chelsea firmly at the top of the Premier League standings with 22 points from nine matches. While Norwich are still at the bottom of the standings with two points.
Liverpool is currently in second place with 18 points from eight matches. However, the Reds have to fight hard to stick to Chelsea because the opponent they will face next is Manchester United.
