Defeat Colombia, Brazil Qualify for 2022 World Cup

The Brazilian National Team won with a narrow score of 1-0 when they hosted Colombia in the 2022 World Cup Qualifications South America Zone at Corinthians Stadium, São Paulo, Friday (12/11/2021). The only goal was scored by Lucas Paqueta.

The victory made Brazil ensure qualification for the 2022 World Cup. After passing through 12 matches, Brazil is at the top of the South American zone’s 2022 World Cup Qualifiers with 34 points.

Brazil’s collection of 34 points is no longer possible to be chased by fourth-placed Chile, which is the deadline for teams to qualify automatically for the 2022 World Cup.

First round, Brazil dominated the game, but Colombia played effectively. Just seven minutes later, Colombia opened the game through Wilmar Barrios’ kick, but it was still too high.

Two minutes later, Danilo’s shot was still too high. In the 20th minute, Colombia again responded through Duvan Zapata’s shot, but his shot was still narrowly wide on the left side of the goal.

Brazil also responded again through Lucas Paqueta and Gabriel Jesus’ kicks in the 24th and 27th minutes. However, these two players still failed to open the scoring for Team Samba.

The match was tough, Juan Cuadrado’s shot in the 39th minute was saved brilliantly by Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker. As a result, the score was 0-0 and did not change until halftime.

Second Half Tension did not decrease in the second half, the match continued to be fierce. Brazil’s game was more aggressive when Fred was pulled off and replaced by Vinicius Junior.

In the 51st minute, Gabriel Jesus’ left footed shot was saved beautifully by David Ospina. Three minutes later, Neymar Jr’s shot was blocked by a Colombia defender. Entering the 70th minute, Colombia was confined in its own area.

Brazil appeared aggressive without knowing mercy, goals were just a matter of time. Two minutes later, the efforts made by the yellow uniformed team paid off.

Lucas Paqueta’s shot was too hard for goalkeeper Davide Ospina to anticipate. The score changed 1-0 to Brazil’s advantage. At the final whistle, Brazil almost doubled their lead.

However, Anthony’s shot, who had just entered to replace Gabriel Jesus, was again denied by goalkeeper David Ospina. The 1-0 score lasted until the game was over. Lineup:

Brazil XI (4-3-3): Allison, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Casemiro, Lucas Paqueta, Fred, Gabriel Jesus, Neymar, Raphinha Coach: Tite Colombia XI (4-3-3) : David Ospina, William Testillo, Davinson Sanchez, Johan Mojica, Daniel Munoz, Wilmar Barrios, Yairo Moreno, Jefferson Lerma, Duvan Zapata, Luis Diaz, Juan Cuadrado Coach: Reinaldo Rueda
