Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had left a message to the Manchester United squad in a training session on Sunday (21/11) before he officially left the position of Man Utd coach.
Solskjaer stated that he had given messages to Man Utd players who are currently preparing to face Villarreal in the Champions League.
“As I told them this morning, believe in yourself, you know you can do better than this.”
“We can’t show it but come out on the pitch proud, enjoying ourselves as a Man United player, in the Champions League, on the biggest stage,” Solskjaer said in an interview with Manchester United’s website about his separation.
Solskjaer also believes that Man Utd will be in good condition when Michael Carrick is held as caretaker at this time.
“If and when you win the game, Michael Carrick will be in control [as coach]. Michael, I have great respect for him. I want to see Michael prove himself.”
“Right now I feel emotional because he is a great figure. They will be fine. I will watch and support them,” said Solskjaer promised.
Solskjaer also hopes that the fans will continue to support the ‘Red Devils’ in every game. He also emphasized that fans have always shown a positive aura in their work at Man Utd, both as players and coaches.
“Let’s support this team, you have to stay with them. The fans have been amazing to me from the moment I started kicking the ball, scoring the first goal, until now.”
“And I’m sure we’ll see each other again because when I want to watch football it’s at Old Trafford,” said Solskjaer.
Solskjaer left his post as Man Utd coach following a 4-1 loss to Watford. The defeat left Man Utd even further behind in the Premier League title race this season.
Solskjaer himself came as Man Utd coach in 2018 to replace Jose Mourinho. During Solskjaer’s tenure, Man Utd did not win a trophy.
Chelsea legend John Terry believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hurt by the decision to part ways with Manchester United.
“When you are a true Man Utd person like Ole, this kind of thing is hard to accept. Of course it will hurt him.”
But this was the effect of an employment agreement, everyone knew something like this would be included. It’s sad that something like this happens but sadly it’s part of the job,” Terry said in an interview with Sky Sports, quoted by the Mirror.
Terry admitted to seeing the sadness that appeared on Solskjaer’s face when the match against Watford ended. But on the other hand, Terry also believes there will be relief that will be felt by Solskjaer
“Yesterday, when we all saw him step up and apologize to the fans, it certainly wasn’t a comfortable atmosphere.”
“But he will also be a little relieved after being away from there,” said Terry.
