Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, was delighted to see his team’s sweet achievements throughout the group stage of the 2021-2022 Champions League. Passing the group phase with a perfect victory, Liverpool made sure after crushing AC Milan with a score of 2-1 in the final match last night.
As is known, the Reds -Liverpool’s nickname – won when they travelled to AC Milan’s headquarters, the San Siro Stadium, Wednesday (12/8/2021). The game ended with a score of 2-1.
In that match, Liverpool actually fell behind in the 29th minute through Fikayo Tomori’s goal. However, their hard work paid off by turning things around through Mohamed Salah (36′) and Divock Origi (55′).
The victory fulfilled Liverpool’s points collected, to 18. That way, Liverpool ensured themselves to be at the top of Group B with a perfect victory.
The victory also made Klopp manage to answer doubts over the experimental line-up he created. Yes, many changes compared to previous matches.
However, Klopp did this solely to refresh the condition of his players. On the other hand, he also wants to give his players flying hours to compete at the highest level.
“I’m very proud of the boys, especially because it was the sixth game in a difficult group,” Klopp said, quoted by the Mirror page, Wednesday (12/8/2021).
“Everyone was surprised before the game with the line-up (making so many changes), but I said we wanted to win the game – and I mean that because we needed fresh legs, to be fair,” he continued.
“And what the players did to prove that, I’m very proud of! It was an amazing game and the performance was great. To play here at the San Siro against Milan, to have so many shots and to finish so many situations with a try is incredible.”
“We played amazingly well, with a team that are not used to playing together, and defended with passion and good organisation, so I’m very happy. There are some great things about this team out there.”
While accompanying Liverpool to advance to the last 16 in Group B is Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s team managed to come out as runners up with 7 points after defeating Porto 3-1 in the last match.
