Max Verstappen carve a historic record in Formula 1 (F1). The Red Bull Racing driver confirmed himself as F1 world champion in the last series which was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Max Verstappen locked the 2021 F1 world title after finishing first at the Yas Marina Circuit, Sunday (12/12/2021). Behind finishing first and successfully locking the F1 world title, the race which lasted for 58 laps did not go easily for Verstappen.
The Dutch racer had lost his leading position after his closest competitor Lewis Hamilton made a better start. Almost throughout the race, Verstappen was always behind Hamilton. The last chance came for Verstappen when Nicholas Latifi (Williams) crashed at Turn 14 and the race had four laps to go.
Verstappen took advantage to enter the pits and replace the tires with new soft tires. On the other hand, Hamilton continued to maintain the hard tires he had been using since the 15th lap.
The race was back to normal on the last lap. The superior performance of the fresher tires helped Verstappen overtake the seven-time F1 world champion dramatically in the final laps. This victory made the 24-year-old racer lock the world title for the first time in his career.
In addition, Max Verstappen made history in Formula 1. He became the first Dutch driver to win the F1 world title. “This is crazy, I don’t know what to say. I’m very happy for the team and everyone. I really like working with them,” explains Max Verstappen. “Finally today I got a bit of luck,” added Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton’s superiority in the racing event is undeniable. How could he not, he has been the F1 world champion seven times. Hamilton’s number of F1 world titles is now on par with Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher.
Four of Hamilton’s seven F1 world titles have been won for four consecutive seasons, since 2017. However, in the 2021 season, Max Verstappen succeeded in breaking Lewis Hamilton’s dominance in the Formula 1 World Championship.
