Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo said he was the victim of an attack and injured his right eye, and the impact puts his ability to play at Arsenal this Saturday in doubt.
The Portuguese took to Instagram on Thursday night to reveal the incident. Four Intruders entered his home and attacked him before stealing some jewelry.
“Unfortunately today I was attacked by 4 cowards who hurt me and tried to hurt my family. When I protest this will happen. They took all my jewelry and left my face in this state.” Cancelo posted.
“The most important thing to me is my family and luckily all is well. After so many ups and downs in my life, this is just one more time that I will get through. Be firm and strong as always.” he added.
Meanwhile City condemned the cowardly attack and confirmed that Cancelo is cooperating with the police.
“We are shocked and appalled that Joao Cancelo and his family were subjected to a burglary at their home this evening in which Joao was assaulted.” City said in a statement.
“Joao and his family are receiving support from the club and he is cooperating with the police as they investigate this very serious matter.” City added.
Cancelo has been a regular with Pep Guardiola’s City side this season, which leads the Premier League table. He played the full 90 minutes for City on Wednesday night as they beat Brentford 1-0.
City planned to stay in London after Wednesday’s match against Brentford to prepare for Saturday’s showdown at Arsenal. However, then the plan has changed and they returned to Manchester on Wednesday night.
The Skyblues is going through a 10-win streak in a row, they have 50 points after 20 rounds and are firmly at the top of the Premier League when creating an 8-point difference to Chelsea.
