Bologna vs. Inter Milan Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

The Italian Serie has confirmed Bologna vs. Inter Milan on Thursday offically postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak in the Rossoblu’s squad.

“We will go on with the program as scheduled without any postponement,” the league told Reuters in a statement earlier on Wednesday.

“We are not able to decide which games to postpone and which ones to play. The situation is hard for every team, but we must go ahead.” they added.

Another team, Hellas Verona, have just as many cases and are not under orders to quarantine yet, having already travelled to La Spezia.

Inter still marched to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara and carried out all the required procedures before being informed that Bologna could not play.

According to reports, after the outbreak of COVID-19 in Bologna, the local government asked the entire team to self-isolate at home for at least 5 days.

Bologna currently has up to 8 players on the first team payroll with COVID-19. Four new positive cases were discovered on Wednesday: Gary Medel, Federico Santander, Sydney van Hooijdonk and Emanuel Vignato. The team’s leadership then asked the Serie A Organizing Committee to postpone the match against Inter.

Inter meanwhile, they also have 3 players infected with COVID-19 but only Edin Dzeko is an important factor, the rest Alex Cordaz and Martin Satriano are not the top choices. Nerazzurri’s next match will be to welcome Lazio on January 10.

Inter is still at the top of the table. The distance between teacher and coach Simone Inzaghi and the second team in the group, great rival AC Milan is 4 points.

As the new Omicron variant spreads throughout the country, Italy reported a record 170,844 coronavirus cases on Tuesday, stadium capacities have been reduced from 75 percent to a maximum 50 percent to fight rising infections.
