The Malaysian men’s singles, Lee Zii Jia, warned his teammates not to get too carried away in the euphoria of victory over Indonesia in the 2022 Asian Team Championship final. The Malaysian men’s team won the Asian Team Championship title after overthrowing Indonesia 3-0 in the final match.
The final match of the 2022 Asian Team Championships was held at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor Malaysia, Sunday (20/2/2022). Lee Zii Jia was the player who contributed the first points for Malaysia after completing the match against Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.
Lee Zii Jia won over Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo through a rubber game or three games with a score of 14-21, 21-12, and 21-10. The victory obtained by Lee Zii Jia was then followed by Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik. Aaron/Soh ensured that the Malaysian men’s team won 2-0 after finishing the match against Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin through a fierce game of three games with a score of 17-21, 21-13, 21-18.
The Malaysian men’s team then secured victory over Indonesia and won the 2022 Asian Team Championship after Ng Tze Yong defeated Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay in the third party. Ng Tze Yong won the match over Ikhsan Leonardo Immanuel Rumbay through a straight game or two straight games with a score of 21-14 and 21-15.
However, Lee Zii Jia didn’t want the Malaysian team to be complacent about beating Indonesia and winning the Asian Team Championship. Lee Zii Jia said his team-mates should not be engrossed in the fun as other teams fielded second-tier squads at this year’s Asian Team Championships.
“Even though we are champions, we can’t be too happy because everyone knows that the other team sent their second tier. Only, what I can say is that we managed to maintain the quality,” said Lee Zii Jia, quoted by the Daily News.
“The Thomas Cup competition will definitely be more challenging because each team will send their strongest squad,” he said. “We can celebrate this success. However, don’t lose focus. We have to come back to prepare to compete in the Thomas Cup,” said Lee Zii Jia.
