Former world No.1 Andy Murray told about his future plans. According to the Scottish, he still has no intention of retiring.
Murray made his return to the Australian Open for the first time in three years at the 2022 event and had a hard fought battle with the Georgian tennis player, and 20th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round before losing out to the Japanese qualifier.
“I am 34 years old and with the problems I have had in recent years, I have to be careful. However, as long as I feel fine and healthy, I still want to keep playing.” Murray said.
“That’s also why I’ve been through recovery and training for the past few years. I don’t want to be healthy just for the sake of training. I want to be in the best shape even when competing. So I’m going to keep trying to play as much as I can,” Murray added.
A hip injury seriously affected Andy Murray’s career in 2018. At one point, the Scottish tennis player dropped to 839 in the world.
After his early exit from the Paris Masters, Murray has said he will play five more tournaments before the year ends of 2022.
“For me, it is becoming harder, like leaving the family and stuff, I find that more difficult now than what I did a couple of years ago.” Murray said.
“For example, if I had another injury again, which was going to be like a long rehab, or whatever, something happened to the hip, obviously, that would be the end.” he added.
In the latest update on February 7, Murray returned to the top 100 on the world ATP rankings, specifically at 95. This will certainly be a great motivation for the Scottish icon to continue to attend the competitions.
