Ready to remove Cristiano Ronaldo’s curse, Antoine Griezmann is confident Atletico Madrid will eliminate Manchester United from the 2021-2022 Champions League. He considered Atletico Madrid to have the capacity to get rid of Manchester United.
Atletico Madrid will face Manchester United in the second leg of the 2021-2022 Champions League last 16 at Old Trafford Stadium, Wednesday 16 March 2022. Previously in the first leg, the two teams played 1-1 in the match which was held at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Ahead of the match, Antoine Griezmann hopes Atletico Madrid will win to qualify for the 2021-2022 Champions League quarter-finals. He explained that Atletico Madrid would take advantage of all opportunities to score goals.
“We hope to win and qualify, we have the team to do it. We fight every second in the match,” Griezmann said as quoted by Tribalfootball, Monday (14/3/2022).
“We know a lot of Manchester United fans who come to the stadium. For us this is a very important match, where we have to win to qualify and hopefully it will be a great night,” said the French national team player.
Griezmann also said that all the players who were selected would contribute more to Atletico Madrid. Because, this match is like life and death for Atletico Madrid.
“We are confident, we played well. Whoever the player is, whether a starter or a substitute, will play very well. We have to continue like this,” Griezmann said.
Griezmann wants to remove the curse that Cristiano Ronaldo’s team has always beaten in the knockout stages of major tournaments. Previously, Griezmann who strengthened Atletico Madrid was defeated by Cristiano Ronaldo who defended Real Madrid, to be precise in the 2015-2016 Champions League final and 2016-2017 Champions League semi finals.
In addition, Griezmann and France were also defeated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal. That was precisely in the 2016 European Cup final, where Portugal won 1-0 over France.
