Comments by Riders on Delay in Mandalika Race due to Heavy Rain

The MotoGP riders considered it too dangerous if the race at the Mandalika Circuit was forced to run in the pouring rain. The Mandalika MotoGP or MotoGP Indonesia race on Sunday (20/3/2022) is actually scheduled to start at 14.00 local time. However, until 14:40 local time, the Mandalika MotoGP race had not yet started.

The Indonesian MotoGP race had to be postponed until an undetermined time limit due to the heavy rain that flushed the Mandalika Circuit. There were puddles of water at several points of the Mandalika Circuit track. This was reflected when the Safety Car car circled the track to ensure the condition of the Mandalika Circuit.

While waiting for the certainty of the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP race, several riders expressed their opinions. Suzuki Ecstar racer, Alex Rins, admitted that he was quite disappointed that the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP race had to be postponed due to heavy rain.

Alex Rins was disappointed because he was really looking forward to the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP race. However, Alex Rins understood the decision of the Mandalika MotoGP Race Director. Because, racing in the pouring rain will be very dangerous.

“I’m speechless. It’s a shame because we’ve come all the way to Indonesia and then found it raining on race day,” said Alex Rins quoted from Sky Sports. “I really like the Mandalika Circuit track. This track is very beautiful. However, it is too dangerous to race in this weather.” added Alex Rins.

The same thing was also expressed by Pramac Ducati Racing rider, Johann Zarco. The French racer also considered it dangerous to race when there were many puddles of water on the track. “Seeing the footage of the Safety Car on the track, I realized that under these conditions it is impossible to start the race,” said Johann Zarco.

The Monster Energy Yamaha rider, Franco Morbidelli, really hopes that the rain at the Mandalika Circuit will stop soon so that the race can start. “I am very relaxed. I don’t think there is anything that makes us have to race in the midst of these conditions,” said Franco Morbidelli. “I hope for better. However, for now, this condition is very hindering to race,” said Franco Morbidelli.
