Failed to bring Italy to the World Cup, Mancini chooses to resign?

After it was confirmed that he failed to appear in the 2022 World Cup, surprising news came back from the Italian national team squad.

This time, the coach of the Italian national team, Roberto Mancini, will reportedly announce his resignation from his current position.

As is known, Italy was only able to walk until the qualifying round after being defeated by North Macedonia in the play-off match on Friday (25/3/2022) yesterday.

The match, which was held at the Stadio Renzo Barbera, ended with the score 0-1. Mancini has done a lot for Italy. The former Manchester City coach was the mastermind behind the rise of Gli Azzurri after swallowing the bitter pill for not being able to play in the 2018 World Cup.

However, it should be noted that thanks to Mancini as well, Italy managed to advance to the final round of Euro 2020 and come out as champions.

However, it cannot be denied that Italy’s failure to participate in the 2022 World Cup is also part of his responsibility.

Talk about the sacking of Mancini after Italy was kicked out in the World Cup qualifying round is fairly minimal. But recently, SportMediaset reported that the 57-year-old man would leave Gli Azzurri.

It is known that Mancini will announce his retirement next week. Right after Italy faced Turkey in a match held at the Torku Arena, Wednesday (30/3/2022).

So, who will take the coaching chair after Mancini resigns? La Gazzetta dello Sport named Fabio Cannavaro as the strongest candidate to become the next Gli Azzurri coach after Mancini.

Cannavaro started his career after hanging up his boots in 2013 as an assistant coach at Al-Ahli. Then, he continued his career in Guangzhou, Al-Nassr, Tianjin Quanjian, to the Chinese national team.

Not only Cannavaro who is rumored to be replacing Mancini’s seat in the Italian national team. Quoted by Pedia content from SportMediaset, there are three other potential names namely Andrea Pirlo, Stefano Pioli, and Claudio Ranieri.

Even an Italian journalist Simone Malagutti, leaked the news that the FIGC had contacted Ranieri and Pioli regarding the possibility of coaching the Gli Azzurri.
