Maryna Moroz Pays Tribute to the Country at UFC 272

Ukrainan fighter Maryna Moroz spoke about the war in her country when she gave her win speech at UFC 272, she beat Mariya Agapova on Sunday.

Featured on the show’s preliminary card, Moroz kept her promise and headed to the octagon wrapped in the Ukrainian flag.

Pushed by about ten thousand fans, Moroz dominated from the beginning. With clinches, takedowns and a lot of pressure in the grappling fight, she easily won the first round, leaving the best for the next stage.

Moroz took advantage of her opponent’s failed attempt to get up to land a choke using Agapova’s own arm. After a few seconds of pressure, the rival had no choice but to give up.

“If you know, my country has a war right now and my family is in the Ukraine. I had a hard week. I’m worrying, I’m crying because my family are in a bad situation.” Moroz said.

“I see in Ukraine how terrible the situation is. It was really my heart almost crying. But I did it. I focused and I did fight.

“Thank you to everyone messaging me, supporting me because this week was hard for me. I want to cry because of this war in my country. Thank you everyone.” Moroz added.

The invasion of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine completed its eleventh day on this Sunday. The war got repercussion in the world of sports, with several expressions of repudiation of the armed conflict and support for Ukrainian civilians.

Moroz has been a professional in MMA for at least 9 years. In the meantime, she has accumulated 13 fights, with 10 wins and 3 losses. In fact, among her successes, 1 was by knockout, 5 by submission and 4 by decision of the judges.

“I’m back. I’m happy. I’m ready to fight again. Thank you very much to everyone.” Moroz said.
