Ralf Rangnick Reveals Who Is to Blame After Manchester United’s Champions League Exit

Manchester United on Tuesday night were eliminated from the Champions League at the last 16 stage after losing at Old Trafford to Atletico Madrid, interim manager Ralf Ragnick was critical of a number of refereeing decisions during the match.

The German manager Rangnick admitted that the Spanish side were busy lying on the floor and wasting the time while also slamming the officiating.

“It was hard in the second half and always interrupted. There was always somebody lying on the floor. I would also say some curious refereeing decisions.” Ragnick said.

“I wouldn’t say they were decisive but at least he fell too often for those time-wasting antics and four minutes at the end added on was a joke for me.” Ragnick added.

Renan Lodi’s goal was somewhat controversial. Both Anthony Elanga and Fred fell after collisions with Atletico players, but referee Slavko Vincic still allowed the game to continue.

“That was a foul for sure on Anthony Elanga but the referee and the linesman didn’t see it that way.” Ragnick said.

“For me that was the only real moment, and the offside goal, that they scored with. Apart from that, we defended well and we were compact in their transition moments. There is nothing I can blame the team for in the first half.” he added.

Despite his big game against Tottenham last weekend, where he scored a hat-trick, Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t continue his scoring streak and against Atletico.

The Portuguese has won a total of 5 Champions League titles, with two different clubs, and is the top-scoring player in the competition. However, the past 3-4 years havent’t been kind to Ronaldo in the Champions League.

Following the home loss, Manchester United’s journey in Europe is over for the 2021-22 season.
