Premier League Final Standings: Man City Wins, Liverpool Fails Quadruple

Manchester City won the 2021-2022 Premier League after a dramatic win against Aston Villa in the 38th week, Sunday (22/5/2022). Man City beated Aston Villa 3-2 so that The Citizens had the right to sit at the top of the 2021-2022 Premier League standings.

Competing in public at the Etihad Stadium, Man City had to fall behind 0-2 first after goal scored by Matty Cash (37′) and Philippe Coutinho (69′). Man City just got back up by scoring three goals in the range of five minutes since the 75th minute.

The Citizens hat-trick came thanks to braces by Ilkay Guendogan (76′, 81′) and Rodri (78′). As a result, Pep Guardiola’s troops continued to secure the top of the 2021-2022 Premier League standings and ended the season with 93 points.

Man City is one point ahead of Liverpool (92 points) who in the final match won 3-1 over Wolverhampton Wanderers. For Man City, this is the eighth Premier League title in the club’s history or sixth in the Premier League era.

Amazingly, The Citizens won four of the Premier League titles in the last five seasons (2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2020-2021, 2021-2022). This result also ensures Liverpool fail to realize the quadruple mission or the achievement of four trophies in a season. The Reds have already won the Premier League Cup, FA Cup and have the chance to win a third trophy this season in the Champions League.

The third position is occupied by Chelsea (74 points), while Tottenham Hotspur finished in fourth place (71 points) to win the last ticket to the Champions League next season. Spurs confirmed their place in the Champions League after a 5-0 goal feast at Norwich City.

Arsenal’s victory over Everton with a landslide score of 5-1 was meaningless. The Gunners finished fifth and will compete in the Europa League next season. One other Europa League ticket was won by Manchester United after finishing sixth in the English League final standings.

However, Man United came close to competing in the UEFA European Conference League next season after losing to Crystal Palace 0-1. Luckily for the Red Devils, West Ham United lost 1-3 against Brighton and Hove Albion in the last weekend. West Ham will also play in the Conference League next season after finishing seventh.

In the relegation zone, Burnley followed Watford and Norwich City who dropped out of division or would be in the Championship next season.
