Barcelona president Joan Laporta is seriously considering selling Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United for an estimated 80 million euros due to the impacts of market value reduce and debt repayment pressure.
According to Express and transfer expert Gerard Romero, Barcelona are ready to sell Frenkie de Jong because the player is no longer in the plans of coach Xavi Hernandez next season.
The news about the Dutch midfielder leaving the Camp Nou Stadium is rising, and the deal may be 95 percent complete.
“Things can change, but I believe 95% of De Jong will come to Man United this summer. The deal between the two clubs will cost between 70 and 80 million euros,” Romero said.
On the side of Manchester United, the Old Trafford club has closely followed De Jong’s move in recent times. He is considered the top transfer priority of Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils can take advantage of the good relationship between the 52-year-old manager and the De Jong to soon complete this deal.
Still, De Jong is not a bad signing, but the lack of stability at Barcelona has prevented the Dutch midfielder from reaching his full potential.
De Jong was unable to manage into a European-class central midfielder as expected due to inconsistency on the training bench and having to play against his stability.
Since being brought back by Barca from Ajax in 2019 for 75 million euros, De Jong has only won 1 title. At Barca, the 24-year-old has played a total of 137 matches for the Catalan giants. He scored 13 goals and 17 assisted for Barca.
“He is very important. Frenkie has to define an era at this club. He is in good form and I am very pleased with him.” Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez said.
“Frenkie needs to continue. He has to score goals, provide assists. and become an important player.” he added.
