Roman Abramovich Sends an Emotional Farwell to Chelsea after Completing the Process of Selling the Club

The Premier League on Tuesday approved the takeover of Chelsea football club by the group led by American businessman Todd Boehly.

Boehly on May 7 has formulated an offer of £4.25 billion for the takeover of The Blues, owned by Roman Abramovich.

Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Abramovich finally resigned himself to putting the London club up for sale.

Abramovich has been with Chelsea since 2003, when he bought the club. Under the 55-year-old Russian, Chelsea rose to become a big club in England and Europe, with five Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, two Europa League titles, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

“The ownership of this Club comes with great responsibility. Since I came to Chelsea nearly twenty years ago, I have witnessed first-hand what this Club can achieve.” Abramovich said.

“My goal has been to ensure that the next owner has a mindset that will enable success for the Men’s and Women’s team, as well as the will and drive to continue developing other key aspects of the club, such as the Academy and the vital work of Chelsea Foundation.

“I am pleased this search has now come to a successful conclusion. As I hand over Chelsea to its new custodians, I would like to wish them the best of success, both on and off the pitch.” Abramovich added.

This season, Chelsea finished third in the Premier League and qualified for the next Champions League. The club lost in the League Cup and FA Cup finals, both times to Liverpool.

“It has been an honour of a lifetime to be a part of this Club, I would like to thank all the Club’s past and current players, staff, and of course fans for these incredible years.” Abramovich said.
