The SPORT1 journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on the situation and claimed that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is about to join Manchester United.
According to Plettenberg, the deal between the two sides may be officially announced this week at Old Trafford.
“Ten Hag is very interested in De Jong, the deal is entering the final stages.” Plettenberg shared on his personal twitter page.
“De Jong is about to join Man Utd, it is expected to be announced at the end of this week, they plan to debut De Jong in the stadium,” Plettenberg added.
In Spain, journalist Gerard Romero, one of the prestigious figures in the media, also spoke up to update the information. According to him, Barca have prepared a farewell video of Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona is willing to let De Jong go, but they don’t want the deal to go through because that could have an impact on their strategy for raising money for spending.
While United wants to complete the deal as soon as possible in order to protect TenHag’s reputation and transfer plans this summer.
The Red Devils at first they made an offer of 60 million euro plus 10 million euro in bonuses, but in the meantime they have increased that to 70 million euro plus the same amount of bonuses.
De Jong had netted 13 goals in 140 games in all competitions in his first three seasons with the Barcelona. Prior to moving to Camp Nou, the Dutch midfielder scored five goals in 85 games for Ajax’s first team.
“The salary of De Jong is a problem, as of today, for Barcelona. So, this is why the situation is still open, it’s now up to United to reach an agreement with Barca.” Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said.
