Novak Djokovic Never Takes Any Victory For Granted

Novak Djokovic dropped to his knees moments after winning another Wimbledon title in 2022, pulling a tuft of grass off the court and enjoying the victory.

On that occasion, the bite was extra sweet. He claimed his first Grand Slam title of the 2022 season and the 21st Grand Slam of his career after beating Australian Nick Kyrgios in four sets in the final.

“For sure I am surrounded by happiness and joy to experience this moment one more time. I’ve said it a few times, this tournament is extra special for me because it’s the first tournament I’ve ever watched as a kid, one of the reasons I started playing tennis,” explained Djokovic.

“I don’t take any wins for granted, and especially not in London. On the other hand, every time you win feels a little different. Of course, with my family and the closest people in my life here to share this victory, it feels very beautiful.”

This time one season ago, the Serbian claimed a third Grand Slam title and is positioning himself for a Grand Slam Calendar (winning all four Grand Slam titles in one season). But arriving in London this season, he has only claimed one title.

But this does not make the first seeded tennis player intimidated. Now he has won the Wimbledon title for the fourth time in a row.
“Arriving at Wimbledon this season, I felt great with my game, because I had won the title for the third time in a row before this season. I’ve always loved playing on grass. Every season, I have improved my game on grass,” added Djokovic.

“I came home from Paris with a painful and emotional defeat against Rafa, which was disappointing. In Rome and Paris, I played the game I wanted to, which put me in a position to compete for the biggest titles.”

“I’m excited about my chance to arrive at Wimbledon. As before, I’m very inspired to play the best game in London.”

Rod Laver Arena, the main court of the Australian Open, has become the most successful court for the Serbian national after he won the title nine times. But having won seven of the last 11 Wimbledons, he has proven he feels more comfortable on the gridiron.

“The more you win, it’s logical that you feel more confident, more comfortable every time you enter the pitch. I feel very connected to this court and this tournament, no doubt about it,” said Novak Djokovic.
