Former NFL football player Kevin Ware has been accused of killing his girlfriend Taylor Pomaski in a crime committed in Texas in last year. The jury even accused Ware of tampering with evidence and evidence of the crime.
Kim Ogg, the Harris County prosecutor on Thursday issued a statement confirming the allegations.
“Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” Ogg said.
“We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law equally to all.” Ogg added.
Pomaski was last seen alive on April 25, 2021, at Ware’s home, with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reporting that she disappeared completely “under suspicious circumstances,” according to ABC News Houston station KTRK.
Ware was arrested in Houston on gun and drug charges in June 2021, shortly after Pomaski’s missing, and has been held in Montgomery County Jail ever since.
“We appreciate everyone who has come forward to provide evidence and aid in our investigation,” Lacy Jhonson, a chief prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, said.
“Although this investigation has been going on since Taylor’s disappearance in 2021, the court process is just beginning, and we encourage anyone who has knowledge about what happened between Kevin and Taylor to come forward.” she added.
Ware was sentenced to two years in prison for intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, a first-degree felony in December 2018.
If Ware is convicted of murder, he may face a potential sentence of 15 years to life in prison, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
Ware played in the NFL between 2003 and 2004 for the Washington Redskinks and San Francisco 49ers. He was arrested for violating bail conditions for a case involving drug and weapons charges, which are unrelated to Taylor’s disappearance and death.
