Chelsea hit by defender and centre-forward crisis

Chelsea, who just lost to Leeds United, still has a lot of homework this season.

You could say, Chelsea started this season slowly after picking different results in the first three weeks.

In response to this situation, the former assistant of the Blues said they needed a new striker.

Chelsea opened the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton. They then drew 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur and then lost 0-3 to Leeds United at Elland Road, Sunday (21/8/2022).

Three new goals were made by Chelsea, while they have conceded five times.

In comparison, it took Chelsea just three games to concede five goals while last season they needed 13 games to concede the same number.

Chelsea’s attention is currently still on strengthening defense, with Wesley Fofana (Leicester City) being the latest target.

In addition to the back line sector, the front sector is also in the spotlight.

Former Chelsea assistant Jody Morris sees Thomas Tuchel’s squad not creating enough chances, quoted by Pedia content from the Detik Sport page.

Chelsea itself practically does not have a capable center forward since releasing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, except for strikers like Armando Broja and Michy Batshuayi. This is considered to make them often difficult when building attacks.

“It’s a funny case because even though we’ve had three games this season I have to say that I felt Chelsea were bad in terms of attack against Everton, they didn’t create enough clear chances,” Morris said.

“I think today (against Leeds) was the same. Even though they had chances, you could call them chances but you wouldn’t say ‘he has to score goals’. Even Sterling’s two chances came from his own efforts,” he said.

“I just don’t think they created enough big chances to score, apart from the time against Spurs when Havertz had the chance to seal the game. I think they have to find a striker.”

Chelsea is not not trying to increase the power to break down.

Reports suggest the west London club are approaching Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is considered to be a pretty good solution considering the current situation.

“You’d say he’s going to improve the team at this point, because he’s a recognized goalscorer. I think he will function more as a number 9, I don’t think you will see him wide or playing on the left like he did a few times for Arsenal.
