Atlanta Hawks superstar Dejounte Murray spoke about his relationship with LeBron James. During his first press conference in Atlanta, the point guard revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers star always inspired him.
Murray praised and thanked LeBron in this respect. In other words, the 26-year-old man has something of a protege in one of the greatest basketball players in history. However, both never played on the same team.
“Great man, great leader, great father and great basketball player. Also, LeBron is a guy who took me under his wing when I was just 17.” Murray said.
“I’m grateful to have someone like that in my ear, guiding me, guiding me. Anyway, this is a great guy and I appreciate him a lot.” Murray added.
Murray joined the Atlanta team in June of this year following a trade with the San Antonio Spurs. He played 340 games in five seasons.
As well as, in the last campaign, Murray became an All-Star for the first time in his career. His averages, by the way, were 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 9.2 assists. In addition, he led the NBA in steals, averaging two per game.
Murray’s new role with the Hawks will be to enhance the team’s star, Trae Young. The point guard is the Atlanta franchise’s best bet for a successful season. He is an elite defender and can score from multiple positions on the perimeter.
After all, the Hawks were a finalist in the Eastern Conference in 2021, but they disappointed last season.
Thus, after finishing the regular season in ninth position, the team played in the play-in and eliminated the Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers.
However, the Hawks went down in the first round of the playoffs after a five-game streak against the Miami Heat.
