The United States (US) National Team became the first team to arrive in Qatar to participate in the 2022 World Cup. They arrived on Thursday 10 November 2022, but not all US national team players have arrived because some are still busy defending their respective clubs. .
The United States is playing in the World Cup finals for the first time in eight years and will have one of the most politically charged games when they face Iran on November 29, 2022.
According to a report from ANTARA on Friday (11/11/2022), a number of players were on a Qatar Airways jet from New York which was one of the first flights to use the new section of Hamad international airport which opened Thursday, an AFP photographer at the airport said.
Most of the 26 players, including captain Christian Pulisic, who play in Europe, are confirmed to still have domestic league games to play this weekend.
The United States will start their 2022 World Cup campaign with a Group B game against Wales on November 21, followed by England on November 25, and then a crucial match against Iran.
The match against Iran will also be one of the most awaited matches in Doha because of the political feud between the two countries.
The United States national team coached by Gregg Berhalter stays at Marsa Malaz Kempinski on Pearl, an artificial island north of Doha favoured by expats. They will train at the Al Gharafa club pitch some 15 kilometres away.
The United States has entered the World Cup final 11 times. They finished third in the first edition of the tournament in 1930, famously beating England 1-0 at the 1950 World Cup and reaching the quarter-finals in 2002. The United States had always qualified for the finals from 1990 to 2014, but failed to do so in Russia 2018.
