Ducati racer Alvaro Bautista has won the 2022 World Superbike (WSBK) at the Mandalika Circuit, Sunday (13/11).
The race was interesting from the start. Toprak managed to maintain pole position at the start, but Jonathan Rea managed to lead the race after overtaking on the second lap.
Bautista, who needed a third podium to ensure the world title, managed to overtake Andrea Locatelli on the fourth lap to climb to second place. Two laps later Bautista moved up to second place past Rea.
Bautista then pressed Toprak, who had been unstoppable at the front until midway through the race. Bautista then successfully overtook Toprak at the first corner on lap 13.
Toprak hasn’t given up yet. The Turkish racer managed to take over the leading position in the last six laps.
Until the end of the race Toprak was able to maintain his victory in Race 2 of the 2022 WSBK Mandalika. Bautista managed to finish second and ensure the 2022 WSBK world title. The third podium belonged to Rea.
Bautista ensured the 2022 WSBK world title in Mandalika after Toprak was unable to catch his 66-point lead with one series remaining.
Bautista is currently collecting 553 points at the top of the 2022 WSBK standings. Meanwhile, Toprak is in second place with 487 points.
The following is the profile of Alvaro Bautista, the 2022 WSBK champion
Bautista was born in Talavera de la Reina, Spain on November 21, 1984. Alvaro Bautista first learned to ride a motorcycle when he was three years old.
Then, at the age of eight, he started to participate in the junior racing championship and immediately managed to become runner-up at the local championship in Madrid. Then, at the age of 11, he managed to improve his achievements to become a champion in the junior championship.
Bautista again managed to steal the attention in the motorsports world in Spain after performing brilliantly at the Movistar Activa Joven Cup 1999. Since then, his name has become increasingly known and he got the opportunity to make his international debut in the 125cc class Grand Prix (GP) in 2022 with Aprilia.
His career continued to climb until he succeeded in becoming the 125cc World Champion in 2006. From there, he rose to the 250cc class for three seasons earning eight wins before stepping into MotoGP in 2010 with Suzuki.
In MotoGP Bautista’s career was not so brilliant and often had accidents that made him injured. The most serious injury suffered when he broke a bone in the 2011 Qatar MotoGP free practice.
Then the most memorable accident was when he collided with teammate Valentino Rossi until both of them fell in the Italian MotoGP in 2013.
In MotoGP he had changed teams starting from Suzuki (2010-2011), Honda (2012-2014), Aprilia (2015-2016), and Ducati (2017-2018).
Then after that Bautista decided to switch to WSBK in 2019 by joining Aruba Racing Ducati.
At the beginning of his career at WSBK Baustista appeared dominant by winning 11 consecutive wins and managed to finish as runner-up in the final standings. Bautista then appeared again to appear strong in WSBK 2020 and 2021 until he was finally able to win in 2022.
