Brazil Defeats Switzerland 1-0, Casemiro Brings the Samba Team to Qualification

The Group G World Cup match brought together Brazil vs Switzerland.

As a result, Brazil was able to achieve a narrow 1-0 victory through Casemiro’s only goal.

The result made Brazil ensure a ticket to the round of 16.

The only goal of the game was scored by Casemiro in the 83rd minute.

Brazil was actually able to score a goal earlier through Vinicius Jr., but the referee disallowed it for offside.

In this match, Brazil appeared without its flagship star Neymar Jr due to injury.

As a result, Brazil’s attack line looked dull in the first half.

The PSG club striker was injured when the Samba team won 2-0 over Serbia in the first match last Thursday.

As well as Neymar, full-back Danilo is also out through injury.

The absence of Neymar made Tite appear to have changed his team’s playing scheme.

If in the first match he used a 4-2-3-1 formation, this time Tite preferred to use a 4-3-3.

Tite brought on Fred to replace Neymar while Danilo was replaced on the right by Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

Switzerland, which won 1-0 in their first game over Cameroon, also did not play Shaqiri.

The Swiss national team coach, M Yakin, left Xherdan Shaqiri on the bench and played Fabian Rieder.

Apart from that, there were no other changes in the body of the squad known as the Red Cross.

The Brazilian national team seemed to have difficulty breaking through the tight defense exhibited by Switzerland, even though they controlled the game.

Sure seems to be stacking players in defense with three center backs and two wing backs.

Richarlison, who in the first match bought up two goals for the Samba squad, did not get many golden opportunities.

Vinicius Jr. and Raphinha fired shots at the Swiss goal in the first half.

However, these three shots were countered by goalkeeper Yan Sommer.

At the start of the second half, Tite immediately made changes by bringing on Rodrygo Goes to replace Lucas Paqueta.

Brazil also seems to be returning to a 4-2-3-1 scheme with Rodrygo playing more behind Richarlison.

The lack of players in front of Brazil’s defense made Switzerland play more open.

They were more daring to control the ball at the start of the first half and as a result they were able to grab two chances in the first 10 minutes even though they didn’t score.

Brazil again got a golden opportunity in the 56th minute.

Vinicius Jr managed to dismantle the right side of the Swiss defense and put a cross in front of goal.

Unfortunately, Richarlison’s efforts to stretch his legs were unable to reach the ball which ended up going out of the field of play.

In the 58th minute, Tite took Fred off and brought on Bruno Guimaraes.

Sure also made two substitutions by removing Rieder and Vargas to include Edimilson Fernandes and Renato Steffen.

Brazil was able to score a goal in the 64th minute through a counter attack.

Alex Sandro’s pass from the back caused chaos because the players of both teams could not reach it.

The ball finally rolled to the feet of Rodrygo Goes who then handed the ball to Vinicius Jr.

The 22-year-old striker coolly entered the Swiss box from the right and won a one-on-one duel with Yan Sommer.

Vinicius fired a low shot into the left corner of the goal which Sommer could not reach.

Unfortunately the goal was disallowed after the referee who served as VAR (Video Assistant Referee) supervisor declared Richarlison offside in the process of creating the goal.

Casemiro finally broke Brazil’s deadlock in the 83rd minute.

The goal started with Vinicius Jr.’s pass for Rodrygo who then passed it on to Casemiro with a heel.

Casemiro managed to fire a shot into the top left corner of the goal without being driven away by Yan Sommer.

Until this match ended the score did not change.

Brazil, which continued to press in the remaining time of the match, actually had several opportunities to add goals.

However, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo were unable to convert these opportunities into goals.

The 2022 World Cup result between Brazil vs Switzerland 1-0 made the Samba squad secure a ticket to the last 16 from Group G.

The Brazilian national team is firmly at the top of the standings with six points.

While the Swiss national team is still in second place with the acquisition of three points.

Cameroon and Serbia still have a chance of qualifying because they have bagged a point after drawing 3-3 in the previous match, summarized SportReviews from the Tempo website.
