The Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr suggested ahead of Friday’s setback that the NBA needs to reduce the number of regular season games.
The Warriors are off to a poor start in 2022/23, with seven losses in ten games. To make matters worse, several of the top players were injured or needed rest to avoid injury.
During a press conference, Kerr presented some criticisms on the subject and even gave some private opinions, such as what would be the ideal number of matches. Currently, the regular season totals 82 games for each franchise.
“The league is trying to resolve this by softening the schedule a bit. People spend good money to see the team and then someone doesn’t play? It’s painful.” Kerr said.
“Over the years, we’ve had many discussions with fans who have been in this situation. The ideal, therefore, is a season with 65 games, maybe 70, and everyone plays every night. But good luck for this to be approved.” Kerr added.
After all, in the last match, against the New Orleans Pelicans, Kere did not have the main players of his squad available.
“The end of a brutal journey. It’s definitely something we need to think about in the long term. If there’s a lot of back-to-backs, you’re going to have guys who probably won’t play many of them.
“So I apologiae to all the fans who expected to see these guys on the court, but they won’t. We’re just trying to think about the big picture,” added.
Kerr’s criticism comes at a turbulent time for the defending champion. The Warriors lost the last five games they played and now have more than twice as many losses as they win. Needing to recover in the competition.
