Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has said that Paul Pogba isn’t worth the price tag. The former United midfielder said on Saturday that the Juventus player isn’t in the same class as Lionel Messi or Ronaldo.
Pogba was a former United player in his early playing days where he only made three appearances. United then let go off the player in 2012 after which he joined Juventus. Pogba has made a total of 124 appearances for Juve where he has enjoyed a lot of success bagging in 34 goals. The 23 year old made his senior debut with France in 2013 and has earned a total of 38 caps with 6 goals. He recently had a good to average Euros, where he started firing in the later stages of the tournament.
All of the accolades and pedigree aside, Scholes feels he needs to improve if he wants to be tagged at £86m.
“For his age, he was asking for far too much money, for a player who hasn’t played first-team football. OK, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86m.”
“I just don’t think he is worth £86m. For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet.”
“If he can stay fit, I think he can be a fantastic player. I also think he is great value for the money Manchester City paid for him. I think he is a bargain.”
Scholes also earlier made a remark about Zlatan Ibrahimovic saying that the former PSG forward won’t find life easy at United. Zlatan who was scoring goals for fun last year at France had a strong midfield who assisted him. Scholes believes the Swedish will last only a season at United.
United have already made three signings and Mourinho is looking to further strengthen his squad by adding Paul Pogba, what value will these signings add to the United team, it only remains to be seen.
