Carlo Ancelotti categorically refuses to admit Lionel Messi as GOAT. The debate over who is the best in the world of football will never seem to end.
Many consider Lionel Messi to be the best GOAT (Great All Of The Time) world footballer after he brought home the World Cup trophy this year. Messi’s success in Qatar should end the debate about who is the best between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo himself failed to realize his obsession after Portugal lost 1-0 to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals. The Portuguese national team was sent home by Youssef En-Nesyri’s header in that match.
However, the Italian coach who handles Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, has a different opinion. Carlo Ancelotti categorically refuses to admit Lionel Messi as GOAT. According to him, it is very unfair to think of Messi as the best footballer in history.
“It’s hard to say, I don’t know if he is the best in history.” Ancelotti said at a press conference for the Real Madrid game.
“It’s not fair to say that, because every era has had very good players. ‘Messi is the best in history’ won’t come out of my mouth,” Ancelotti said.
The Real Madrid boss is also not saying that Ronaldo is the real GOAT. Ancelotti said that every era has its best players.
Ancelotti added again, “I enjoy so many good players every day… I train Ballon d’Or winners every day. And I saw Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona play.”
Thousands of fans and experts on social media have a different opinion. According to them, Messi’s success at the 2022 World Cup proves that he is the real GOAT.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also commented that Messi’s victory was enough to place him in the ranks of the best players in history.
Via his official Twitter account @Carra23, the former Liverpool defender ranks the world’s best players. He put Messi in first place, Maradona second, after Pele, Ronaldo and Zidane. Carragher also wrote the hashtag Messi’s name with a goat icon to symbolize GOAT.
German national team legend, Bastian Schweinsteiger, also commented on Carragher’s post. The 2014 World Cup trophy winner said that Messi had finally completed his glorious career with an extraordinary trophy.
