Nadal Responds to Zverev’s Controversial Prediction for 2023

Rafael Nadal has responded Alexander Zverev’s controversial prediction about his retirement in 2023.

The Spaniard has been struggling with injuries over the last few years but still managed to capture a record 14th French Open title last year.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in six months. I have a very good relationship with Zverev, but not enough to confess something like that to him.” Nadal said.

“The reality is that I’m here to play tennis, try to have a great 2023, fight for everything that I have struggled throughout my career and I don’t think about my retirement.” Nadal added.

Zverev has shocked everyone and everything in his predictions for 2023 by saying that  Rafa Nadal will retire at Roland Garros.

“Unfortunately, I think Rafa will retire at Roland Garros. I don’t want it to happen, but I think he will have a great tournament, potentially win it and say goodbye,” Zverev said.

Nadal has had an amazing on-court season in 2022, with not one but two Grand Slam titles under his name.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Spaniard is preparing to defend his Australian Open title. At the United Cup, Nadal suffered two defeats so he is winless going into the Australian Open.

Nadal secured his first win of the year as he began the defence of his Australian Open title by beating Jack Draper 7-5 2-6 6-4 6-1.

“I am ready to keep fighting. Victories help. When you win matches, you are more relaxed and you are more confident.” Nadal said.

“I needed a victory, so that’s the main thing. It doesn’t matter the way it happens. The most important thing today is a victory against a tough opponent.” Nadal added.

It’s his first victory of 2023 and Nadal is hopeful it can help kickstart his year heading into the latter rounds of the Australian Open.
