4 MU Potential Buyers

Prospective buyers of Manchester United are not just Sir Jim Ratcliffe and investor from Qatar. Including them, there are now four parties competing to take over the power of the Glazer Family at Old Trafford.

Reported by Goal International on Friday (10/2/2023), the Glazer Family, who own the majority stake in Manchester United, intend to sell the club that based at the Old Trafford Stadium. The deadline set by the Glazers for anyone who wants to buy Man United is February 17, 2023.

Two figures who are at the forefront as potential buyers of Man United are Sir Jim Ratcliffe and an investor from Qatar. Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is the boss of the chemical company Ineos is known to be the richest man in England. According to Forbes, the 70-year-old man who was born in Manchester is said to have a total wealth of 11 billion pounds.

Apart from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, another party who is reportedly interested in buying Man United is an investor from Qatar, namely Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. It was rumoured that the investor from Qatar was part of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), which also owns Paris Saint-Germain.

However, according to Goal International, QSI is not involved in the competition to buy a majority stake in Manchester United. “Paris Saint-Germain’s owners Qatar Sports Investments are not participating, due to UEFA regulations which prevent them from controlling two clubs,” Goal wrote.

Recent updates, potential buyers of Man United are not only Sir Jim Ratcliffe and investors from Qatar. From the Middle East, Qatari investors are not alone because there are other potential buyers from Saudi Arabia who are also reportedly interested in acquiring Man United.

Investors from Saudi Arabia are believed to be considering a possible bid for Manchester United. Meanwhile, another potential buyer is reportedly from the United States which is also the country of origin of the Glazer Family.

For information, Malcolm Glazer acquired Manchester United privately in 2005 by pouring out a total of 800 million pounds. Of the purchase costs, 500 million of which are debts that are borne by the club.

Currently, the ruling Glazer family at Old Trafford are Malcolm’s two sons, namely Joel and Avram Glazer. Several sources, including ESPN, said the Glazers were trying to sell Manchester United for £6 billion.
