Arsenal feel like a team that can go all the way and take the Premier League trophy to the Emirates. But manager Mikel Arteta’s side have only done the easy part so far.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has believed Jorginho’s history of major championship success and calm playing style will help Arsenal in this season’s Premier League race.
“Jorginho has won the Champions League with Chelsea and won the Euro with Italy in the past few years,” Carragher said.
“He’s a top player and has a different style of play than Arsenal. But I think that can be of great help to Arsenal at the end of the season when they’re feeling nervous, under pressure.” Carragher added.
Arsenal completed the sign of Jorginho from Chelsea for a £12m on the last day of winter transfer window.
The Italian midfielder signed a contract with Arsenal until the summer of 2024, with the option of a one-year extension.
Jorginho will wear the number 20 shirt at his new club – the number once belonged to Nuno Tavares, Shkodran Mustafi, Mathieu Flamini, Johan Djourou or Philippe Senderos.
Speaking to the Arsenal website about Arsenal and coach Arteta, Jorginho said: “He was a big influence because I know that he tried a few times to get me before and it didn’t happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes.”
“I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.” Jorginho added.
Jorginho won an Italian Cup and an Italian Super Cup alongside Napoli. While at Chelsea from 2018-2023, he won four titles, including a Champions League, a Europa League, a European Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
