Reason Casemiro Absent for Next 4 Matches

Man United, who needed a win to remain competitive in the top four of the Premier League standings, failed to win three points at their headquarters. The squad nicknamed the Red Devils had difficulty breaking into the goal of The Saints, nicknamed Southampton, after only appearing with 10 players.

Manchester United received a big blow after their mainstay midfielder, Casemiro, received a red card in the match against Southampton, Monday (13/3/2023). Casemiro received a red card in the 34th minute of the Premier League match at the Old Trafford Stadium after a VAR check.

Initially, Casemiro received a yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor after tackling hard the opposing midfielder Carlos Alcaraz. Nevertheless, VAR intervened and advised referee Taylor to look at the monitor on the sidelines. The judge also decided to give the Brazilian national team midfielder his second red card in the last three Premier League matches.

The player will now serve a four-match suspension in all domestic competitions. The player’s punishment was heavier than the usual straight red card which is three matches. This is because Casemiro has already received a red card this season.

The 31-year-old player will now begin his suspension in the FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham. He will also miss the Premier League games against Newcastle United, Brentford and Everton.

As a result, Casemiro was only able to defend Man United again in domestic matches when the Red Devils faced Nottingham Forest on April 15.

Former Referee and Pandit Comments

“I think it’s a good use of VAR,” said former Premier League referee Chris Foy on Premier League TV. “I thought it was a dangerous tackle. You could see even if his foot hit the ball it was a dangerous tackle. He caught the opponent in the shins so he really deserved a red card because it was a very dangerous foul.”

The former striker for Man United, Coventry City and Aston Villa, Dion Dublin also expressed the same thing. “That’s a red card. Instead of jumping to tackle like that, he should be able to take one more step and then launch a tackle,” he said.
