Andy Murray admitted that he was surprised by his flat performance after losing in straight sets to Dusan Lajovic in the first round of the Miami Open season 2023.

After winning two matches at the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells last week and entering the Miami Open convincingly after a practice session at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, the British tennis player stated that he expected better things.

“I served quite well, but my other game was a bit problematic in this match. I didn’t really return the ball that well, made some mistakes that I definitely didn’t expect I would have made,” said Andy Murray.

“I don’t feel like I’m really moving that well, which is really important to me, something I’ve done very well in most games this season. So, that may be a factor.”

“I’ve been training pretty well. The pitch here is very different, very inflated, much quicker than last week. very different to the practice courts and all that stuff,” Murray added.

“The ball went a little bit higher and I only missed a few balls. I didn’t expect I was playing like that, even based on the last few days, because I was playing quite well in training.”

The three-time Grand Slam title winner said he had yet to decide whether he would stay in Miami a bit longer to begin preparations for the clay-court season, but added that he would return to Spain later this month, when he reunites. with his family and started the practice block.

To date, Murray has won 14 Masters titles from the 46 titles he has won. The tennis player’s last victory in a Masters 1000 tournament was in the 2016 season at the Paris Masters when she was first ranked No. 1 in the world.
