Emma Raducanu says she will take time to reassess her options regarding the wrist injury she has been dealing with for some time.

Speaking to reporters after losing in three sets to Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the first round of the 2023 Miami Open, the British national stated that she will have to find a long-term solution to her wrist condition starting at the end of the 2022 season.

“I just have to reassess after this tournament and figure out what my next step is,” said Raducanu.

“We have managed it, prioritized it. I can afford to play in the short term. But the current solutions are not really feasible in the long term.”

The world number 72 began feeling pain during a training session at Indian Wells a few weeks ago. After making a last-minute decision to play through injury, she had her best tournament finish since winning the 2021 US Open after she beat Magda Linette and Beatriz Haddad Maia en route to the fourth round at Indian Wells before losing to Iga Swiatek.

The result was a boost of confidence for the 20-year-old who has been hampered by a number of injuries and illness since she won the 2021 US Open title.

“I think that I am doing the right things day by day, which gives me confidence,” added Raducanu.

“I feel like this season has been quite difficult in terms of that I had to deal with some of the injuries I had. Yes, it’s quite annoying and frustrating because I’ve been training as best I can.”

“I feel I enjoy competition. Just feeling really excited to be on the pitch.”

Canadian tennis player, Andreescu can feel Raducanu’s frustration. Like the Briton, he caught the attention of the tennis world as a youngster who won the 2019 US Open title, but injury and mental health have disrupted his competitive rhythm since then.

“I honestly really wanted to talk to him because of that, because of what we have in common,” Emma Raducanu said. “I mean, he is also of Romanian blood. He was also born in Toronto, which is very, very crazy.”

“Of course I want to talk to him. Maybe we can help each other.”

The next schedule for the British tennis player is the Stuttgart Open which will start on April 17 and will appear using a wildcard.
