Hansi Flick is not satisfied because Germany only won 2-0 over Peru

Hansi Flick remains dissatisfied even though the German national team only won 2-0 over Peru. The former Bayern Munich coach noted several shortcomings in the games of his squad.

Der Panzer – nicknamed the German National Team – will host Peru at the Mewa Arena, Mainz, Sunday (26/3/2023). Goals from Niclas Fullkrug in the 12th and 33rd minutes defined the outcome of this game.

This was Fullkrug’s fifth goal in his first five matches for the German national team in all competitions. According to Opta, Fullkrug’s five goals equal the feat achieved by Sandro Wagner for the German national team in 2017.

Germany opened up a 1-0 advantage over Peru through the contribution of Niclas Fullkrug when the match was 12 minutes old. At that time, Niclas Fullkrug opened fire from close range. The ball from his kick slid swiftly into Peru’s goal.

Entering the 33rd minute, Niclas Fullkrug scored again. This time, he took advantage of a neat bait from Marius Wolf. The goal process started from Marius Wolf’s right-footed cross from near the Peru penalty box. Niclas Fullkrug then appeared. He immediately welcomed the ball from Wolf’s pass with a right foot kick. Thanks to that, Germany managed to close the game against Peru in the first round with a 2-0 advantage.

Continuing into the second half, Germany received a penalty from the referee in the 68th minute. Kai Havertz stepped forward as the executioner from the spot.

However, Kai Havertz failed to convert a golden opportunity from the penalty box after his shot hit Peru’s right post. No more goals are created. This situation ensured that Germany won over Peru via a score of 2-0.

Flick spoke after the match that the German national team had actually played quite well. However, he was not satisfied because the players still often lost the ball.

“You can see that the team has dynamism, especially in attack. Lots of good things today, but maybe not 100 per cent,” said Flick, quoted by Reuters, Sunday (26/3/2023).

“Sometimes the last pass is not clean enough. We had moments where we lost possession. We have to be more careful,” he continued.

Flick was still happy with Germany’s success in defending the net from conceding. Because the team has worked hard for this result.

“But we also kept a clean sheet which is very important for us and have worked hard for that,” added the 58-year-old coach.

Fullkrug as the scorer also expressed his happiness. The 30-year-old striker said he was satisfied with the success of beating Peru.

“It’s all about starting the year well and exciting the fans. I thought we did well in the first half. Then it got a little wild in the second half,” said Fullkrug.

Meanwhile, the German national team will still face one more test match. Der Panzer will face a strong opponent, namely Belgium at the RheinEnergie Stadium, Cologne, Germany, on Wednesday (29/3/2023).
