Chelsea Approach Nagelsmann After Sacking Potter

After officially sacking Graham Potter, Chelsea are reportedly approaching former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann. Chelsea officially kicked Graham Potter from the manager’s chair on Sunday (2/3/2023) evening local time. Potter was fired after Chelsea lost 0-2 to Aston Villa in Week 29 of the Premier League’s top competition, the Premier League.

It was Chelsea’s eighth defeat since being coached by Potter who replaced Thomas Tuchel in September last year. Together with Potter, the Blues played 22 matches in all competitions with the results of seven wins, seven draws and eight defeats. The defeat at Aston Villa also made Chelsea further away from the European zone. The Blues are now stuck in 11th place in the Premier League standings armed with 38 points.

While looking for a new coach, Bruno Saltor will take over control of the team as interim skipper. Potter hasn’t been in charge of Chelsea for a year. He came to Stamford Bridge in September 2022 to replace the sacked Thomas Tuchel. Expected to bring change, Chelsea actually deteriorated at the hands of Potter.

In the FA Cup, Chelsea only reached the third round. Their progress in the English League Cup also stopped at a similar phase. For the Champions League, Kai Havertz et al still have hopes of winning after qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Approach Nagelsmann

After sacking Graham Potter, Chelsea reportedly immediately approached Julian Nagelsmann. This news was delivered by European transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano. Romano said, Nagelsmann is the top candidate to replace Potter. “Chelsea approaching Nagelsmann as top candidate,” Romano wrote on Twitter.

Romano added, The Blues’ management is currently conducting internal discussions to make the best decision regarding Potter’s successor. Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim is also a candidate, while Mauricio Pochettino has yet to establish communication with Chelsea.

If Julian Nagelsmann does come to Stamford Bridge, this will be interesting because Chelsea and Bayern Munich are like exchanging coaches. Nagelsmann has just lost his job after being sacked by Bayern and his replacement is Thomas Tuchel who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this season.

Thomas Tuchel started a new era at Bayern Munich with a solid 4-2 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund. It has been the best start for Tuchel who was announced as a replacement for Julian Naglesmann just a week ago.
