Jose Mourinho silenced AS Roma fans after singing racist chants against Sampdoria coach, Dejan Stankovic. The commendable gesture of The Special One – the nickname of Jose Mourinho – was carried out during the AS Roma vs Sampdoria match in the 2022-2023 Italian League.
The match AS Roma vs Sampdoria was held at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Monday (3/4/2023). Appearing aggressive at his own base, the Giallorossi -AS Roma’s nickname – successfully defeated Sampdoria with a score of 3-0 without reply.
AS Roma’s winning goals were scored by Georginio Wijnaldum (57′), Paulo Dybala (88′), and Stephan El Shaarawy (90+4′). Meanwhile, the Blucerchiati – nicknamed Sampdoria – had to play with 10 people after Jeison Murillo was sent off in 52 minutes.
Unfortunately, AS Roma’s victory had to be coloured by some bad sights at the iconic Stadio Olimpico. At the start of the second half, when the score was tied at 0-0, Sampdoria coach Dejan Stankovic was subjected to racist abuse from some AS Roma supporters.
A number of AS Roma supporters had sung racist chants to Dejan Stankovic. The incident occurred shortly after Sampdoria’s Jeison Murillo was shown a red card, which made Dejan Stankovic not too happy and protested against the referee.
Thus, Dejan Stankovic became the target of racist abuse from some AS Roma supporters. Luckily, Jose Mourinho, who was aware of the act of racism, immediately asked AS Roma fans to stop the chants.
Jose Mourinho was also able to silence the mouths of AS Roma fans who had sung racist chants against Dejan Stankovic. The Special One proved that he behaves with class during AS Roma’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria.
After the match, Dejan Stankovic thanked Jose Mourinho for helping muffle the racist chants of AS Roma fans. However, he admitted that he did not realise the racist chants were directed at him. “I thank Jose, because I didn’t even realise it, but for his singing, I’m proud of who I am. I am proud to be a gypsy,” said Dejan Stankovic, quoting from Give Me Sport.
For information, Jose Mourinho and Dejan Stankovic have worked together as coaches and players at Inter Milan. Both of them helped Il Nerazzurri -nicknamed Inter Milan- win a historic treble in the 2009-2010 season. Apart from that, AS Roma’s victory over Sampdoria made them level on points with Inter Milan who are in fourth. The Giallorossi are only left behind on goal difference to fight for Champions League qualification next season.
