Tyler Herro has believed the Miami Heat make the playoffs without the purpose that has packed great campaigns in the past.
The Heat may not even carry out great regular campaigns, but it is always seen as a threat in the postseason. The team was just one win away from the league finals last year.
“I think we lost our motivation along the way, for better or for worse. And I don’t know why. I don’t believe the problem is a specific player,” Herro said.
“We have everything we face d in the league with the feeling of being underestimated. But, this season, we didn’t find our motivation as a group.” Herro added.
The Heat roster has always been fired up with the idea of proving the skeptics wrong. For starters, it’s a roster made up of nine athletes who weren’t selected in the draft.
The two top 5 recruiting picks under contract with the franchise are veteran supporting actors. That was what defined the team for a long time. But now Herro feels it has become just a footnote.
“We cannot forget what brought us here. Even Bam Adebayo and I, who were draft lottery picks, were not seen as generational talent.” Herro said.
“People didn’t know about our high potential, so we had to play with attitude to prove our quality. That feeling was what brought us here, but we lost it.” he added.
On the table, the Heat can still overtake the Brooklyn Nets to take a direct playoff spot. But most of all, Herro believes the Heat’s chance to show a reaction before the playoffs.
“Losing seems like a heavy word, because we just have to get that motivation back.” Herro said.
“I believe it’s within us still. But I don’t know why it disappeared. Everyone loves the game and, moreover, they continue to enjoy playing with each other.” he added.
