Liverpool won dramatically over Tottenham Hotspur in the 2022-2023 Premier League. This victory also brought Liverpool closer to fourth place in the 2022-2023 Premier League standings.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp also highlighted this. According to him, there is still a chance for Liverpool to qualify for the 2023-2024 Champions League, although the chance is not big enough.
To note again, Liverpool just silenced Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 4-3 on Monday (1/5/2023). Liverpool were actually three goals ahead via Curtis Jones (3′), Luis Diaz (5′), and Mohamed Salah’s penalty (15′).
However, Tottenham Hotspur managed to equalise through Harry Kane (39′), Son Heung-min (77′) and Richarlison (90 + 3′). Luckily Liverpool were able to make sure of the three points, after Diogo Jota (90+4′) scored the winning goal.
With this victory, Liverpool are getting closer to the top four in the 2022-2023 Premier League standings. Now, The Reds (Liverpool’s nickname) are in fifth position, displacing Tottenham Hotspur by pocketing 56 points.
They are seven points away from Manchester United, who are in fourth. For information, the fourth position is the maximum limit for English teams to compete in the Champions League.
Therefore, Liverpool must finish in the top four if they want to get a ticket to the Champions League next season. Jurgen Klopp also opened his voice about this. For him, all teams have the opportunity to finish in the top four.
“We have our own problems. Chelsea too, Tottenham too. But, all teams have the opportunity for that (to enter the Champions League),” he said as quoted from Liverpool’s official YouTube channel, Monday (1/5/2023).
“It’s definitely not good for us. But for sure, small mistakes can have a big impact on us, “he added. Meanwhile, Liverpool itself still has five matches left in the Premier League this season. The closest they will be is hosting Fulham on Thursday 4 May 2023.
Consistency is Liverpool’s key to realising its determination to finish fourth in the 2022-2023 Premier League.
