Daniil Medvedev arrives at the Italian Open in Rome with 76 wins in the Masters 1000 tournament, but none of them are from Rome.
The 27-year-old tennis player finally won from Rome and even with convincing results when he slaughtered Finnish national Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round of the Italian Open.
“It’s a bit of relief. We can talk about all the games I’ve lost here, they’re all different. The first one, I felt I should have won, but that’s what happened. Whenever I come to a tournament, I know I can do well. So, I feel very happy to finally get the victory here in Rome,” said Medvedev.

The third seed managed to overcome what was a potentially challenging opening match. She steered Ruusuvuori with powerful groundstrokes to devastating effect, allowing her to break the Finnish international five times in a match that lasted 88 minutes.
With his 32nd win of the season, the third seed is now 10-0 in his 2023 season opener. After tasting victory in Rome for the first time in four visits, the five-time Masters winner will look to keep the momentum going against Spanish tennis player, Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the third round of the Italian Open.
“I want to win as many matches as possible,” added Daniil Medvedev. “I know it will be a bit more challenging for me on clay, but to be honest, I played really well.”
“When I lost matches in this tournament, I lost against great players who played much better than me and there’s not much to say. I really did my best and played well. I have beaten many great tennis players. Last week in Madrid, Emil was one of two players to take a set from Carlos Alcaraz, so I’m feeling great and just looking forward to trying to play my best game until the end of the clay-court season.”
It didn’t take Stefanos Tsitsipas long to join Medvedev in the third round of the Italian Open. After his match was postponed the previous day at 6-3, 4-3, the fifth seed won eight of the 11 points up for grabs and beat Nuno Borges 6-3, 6-3.
For the sake of the fourth round, the Greek national tennis player, Tsitsipas will meet the host tennis player, Lorenzo Sonego.
