Premier League champions for the 2015-2016 season, Leicester City will certainly have to be relegated to the Championship division next season. Leicester have to go down in caste after only being able to sit in 18th place in the standings or being the three bottom teams in the standings table this season, with 34 points.
The owner of The Foxes, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha sent a strong message after his team was delegated this season. “Our relegation is undeniably a significant setback, but it will not define our future,” said Aiyawatt.
Despite winning in the last week with a score of 2-1 over West Ham United, the fate of Dean Smith’s children could not be helped because at the same time Everton managed to win 1-0 over Bournemouth.
“Today, we shared the defeat and the pain of being relegated together,” he continued. “However, we will get up and come back here (Premier League),” said the son of the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. Aiyawatt himself said that this was a consequence for his team after not performing so well this season. “Last season was the most difficult season for all of us to survive. Relegation was a consequence of 38 matches in the league, and during that period we were not good enough,” he explained.
The Leicester City owner received several messages, both positive and negative, from his supporters after his team was confirmed to be delegated. “I have received many messages from our fans, both positive and negative. Some of the messages want me to sell the club are offensive, tactless and some are outright insulting,” he said. “But for every painful message I receive, I also receive positive messages such as support and unity, both remotely and in person to me and my family. This means a lot to us,” he said.
The Srivaddhanaprabha family have owned Leicester City since 2010, with the late Vichai as chairman. However, an accident experienced by Vichai caused him to die. Hence, his son, Aiyawatt stepped up to take over the leadership of the club since 2018.
During Srivaddhanaprabha’s reign at Leicester City, the team was able to win the 2015-2016 Premier League season, 2020-2021 FA Cup and Community Shield 2021-2022. Even when they won the Premier League in 2016, Leicester was inhabited by several stars upholding the supremacy of champions such as Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante.
