Premier League club, Chelsea, is reportedly eyeing a new goalkeeper. The Blues are targeting Kasper Schmeichel to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga who will join Real Madrid.
The news about Kepa leaving for Real Madrid was mentioned by well-known Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano. The Spanish goalkeeper will join Real Madrid on loan from Chelsea.
“Kepa to Real Madrid. The loan agreement has been verbally approved by Real Madrid and Chelsea,” read a statement from the Twitter account @FabrizioRomano, Sunday (13/8/2023).
“Kepa has agreed to join Real Madrid after discussions with Bayern in the last 3/4 days. He has said goodbye and is ready to go.”
Reporting from The Sun, Sunday (13/8/2023), Chelsea want Kasper Schmeichel if they lose Kepa. The Blues have paid £25 million to Brighton for Robert Sanchez. However, he seems to be only going to be a backup.
Reports earlier this year suggested that Kasper Schmeichel would be allowed to leave his French club OGC Nice. The Danish goalkeeper joined Nice in the 2021-2022 season after 11 years strengthening Leicester City.
Reports from L’Equipe explain Nice will not stand in Schmeichel’s way if he decides to leave the club this summer. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will actually sign the 36-year-old keeper to replace Kepa.
