FIBA World Cup 2023: Indonesia Arena Breaks Spectator Records

Indonesia, along with Japan and the Philippines, host the 2023 FIBA World Cup or the 2023 Basketball World Cup. This event takes place from 25 August to 3 September 2023 at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta. Jakarta will stage a preliminary round in two groups, namely Group G which will consist of Spain, Iran, Ivory Coast and Brazil, while Group H will consist of Canada, Latvia, Lebanon and France.

The FIBA World Cup 2023 event at the Indonesia Arena presented record spectators on Friday (25/8/2023). Overall, 12,091 fans packed the Indonesia Arena to watch the Canada vs France match in the preliminary Group H FIBA World Cup 2023.

he Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the FIBA World Cup 2023, Junas Miradiarsyah, said that the number of 12,091 spectators was the highest record for a match watched in rolling indoor arena in the country. Junas Miradiarsyah admitted that he was pleased with the enthusiasm of the audience watching the FIBA World Cup 2023 match.

“The number of more than 12,000 is a record for indoor spectators for a sports match held in the country,” said Junas Miradiarsyah in a release. “We are proud that basketball can attract so many spectators to attend to fill the arena,” he explained.

Junas Miradiarsyah also hopes that the audience will continue to fill the Indonesia Arena during the 2023 FIBA World Cup. What’s more, fans will be presented with an exciting match to determine the two teams that will advance to the quarter-finals.

Junas said the committee would continue to try to improve service to the audience based on input from various parties. “Of course our concern is to provide the best comfort for spectators who will be present at the Indonesia Arena throughout the 2023 FIBA World Cup,” said Junas.

Canadian basketball player, Kelly Olynyk, responded positively to the fanfare of the supporters during the Canada vs France match. “This is amazing. They were excited, excited, enthusiastic. That’s very good, I can’t wait for the next fight, “he explained.

Besides that, the Philippines, which hosted the FIBA World Cup 2023, made history of attendance. A total of 38,115 fans were present at the Philippine Arena to watch the home match against the Dominican Republic in Group A. The record spectator in Manila was actually below the maximum capacity of the Philippine Arena which could accommodate 55,000 people.
