Manchester City have completed the signing of Belgian winger Jeremy Doku on a five-year contract from French club Rennes, the Premier League champions announced on Thursday.
ESPN reported on Monday that City had agreed a 65 million euro ($71 million) deal with Rennes to secure the 21-year-old’s services.
Doku becomes Man City’s third signing this summer and replaces Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, who made a move to Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli earlier this summer.
City have signed midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and centre-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
Doku has scored 12 goals in 91 games for Rennes since joining from Anderlecht in 2020.
He played 14 times for Belgium, scored two goals and was named in the 2022 World Cup squad.
It is not without reason that Man City dared to spend this money to bring in Jeremy Doku. Apart from his young age, he is also needed to fill the empty player slot.
Officially joining Manch City, Jeremy Doku seems to be exactly what Pep Guardiola needs.
Because, he can operate as a winger, both on the left and right. Its presence will be useful for tactical needs.
However, with the arrival of Jeremy Doku to Manchester City, it will certainly be a threat to other young players, such as Cole Palmer.
Meanwhile, according to other information, The Netizens brought in Jeremy Doku thanks to a recommendation from Kevin de Bruyne who is the captain of Manchester City.
Bruyne recommends it with good reason. Because both Bruyne and Doku are both Belgian national team players.
Defender Aymeric Laporte joined Al Nassr on Thursday morning and João Cancelo will depart for Barcelona.
The club are also looking to replace injured midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, as the 32-year-old is out until the new year after undergoing surgery with a hamstring injury.
Sources have told ESPN that City are encouraged that Wolverhampton Wanderers will listen to a second offer for Matheus Nunes but will walk away from the deal if there is no compromise on the Portugal international’s valuation.
City’s £47 million ($59 million) bid was rejected on Wednesday with reports suggesting it fell short of Wolves’ demands for the midfielder.
The Premier League champions have won their first two games to retain their title, but coach Pep Guardiola will be out until the international break in September after undergoing back surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday.
