Manchester United have officially loaned Mason Greenwood to Getafe. The club immediately issued a statement accompanied by the hope that the player could rebuild his football career.
The loan agreement was announced ahead of the close of the 2023 summer transfer market. Greenwood was loaned for a full year to the Spanish League club.
In an official statement, Man United said that the loan was initiated to help Greenwood reorganise his football career which has been on hold since January 2022. The club will also continue to help the player and his family in this transition period.
“Greenwood has joined Getafe on loan. This move allows Greenwood to begin rebuilding his career outside of Manchester United,” read the club’s official statement, Saturday (2/9/2023).
“The club will continue to provide its support to Mason and his family during this transition,” the Red Devils continued.
Greenwood was suspended for a long time by Man United due to accusations of rape and domestic violence. After going through a thorough investigation, the club then decided to keep the English player away from his team-mates.
Now, Greenwood has officially joined Getafe on loan. Interestingly, Man United will continue to pay most of the 21-year-old winger’s salary during his loan period.
Man United will bear Greenwood’s salary of £75,000 per week. The loan is quite appropriate because the player is still under contract until June 2025.
